I used to struggle with nightmares and night terrors, but these are some things that helped me (note: if they are really bad you should see a doctor).
Wash your bedding regularly. Nightmares make you sweat and just it being there from a previous night can trigger more nightmares. I can not stress enough how much clean sheets helps.
If you have a nightmare in the middle of the night, flip your pillow over before you go back to sleep to avoid having it again that night.
Open your window at least a tiny bit during the day to let in fresh air.

Tidy your room! Really- clutter and laundry on the floor can create bad energy which gets into your subconscious mind and triggers nightmares.
Shower before getting into bed if you can (you’ll want to with clean sheets) or at least have a good bedtime routine.
