Witch Tips 23

Here are my latest 10 tips from my ongoing #10tips series, be sure to check out the tag on my blog for more juicy tip content & follow me for future tips & other witchery. Enjoy!

1. Double check ingredients correspondence when using recipes you find online.

While I would love to believe everyone I encounter has nothing but pure intentions, that’s not always the case. Not to mention, ignorance may sometimes play a part. It could be entirely by accident that someone includes a sleep-inducing ingredient in a potion meant to give you energy. Best to do a quick Google search to verify the properties of whatever it is you’re using in a potion, spell, anything.

2. Some tips for writing your own spells

Lately, I’ve tossed my books aside & gotten super into writing my own spells. I feel like it helps me feel more powerful & like my spells are stronger when I write them myself. Here’s some advice for writing your own:

💜You don’t have to rhyme, but it can help

💜Look into the properties of what you already have before anything else

💜Sigils can help add power to anything you do

💜A spell doesn’t have to have a million ingredients to be effective

💜Your intentions matter above all else

💜Be eco friendly with your craft

3. Here’s a simple binding words spell

Sometimes there’s something you really want to say but know you shouldn’t. Maybe you’re always tempted to shout about quitting at your job, maybe you’re not ready to tell your partner that you love them, maybe you’re trying to hold your tongue at a family gathering, or you have a secret you can’t reveal. Here is a spoken word spell to help you:

“These words I hold inside my head

These are the words that cant be said

[Think the phrase in your mind, e.g. “I love you”, “fuck off Karen”]

With this spell I do bind

This secret phrase inside my mind.“

4. Use diluted green tea as a treat for your plants once a month.

Green tea is a great, gentle, natural plant food. It gives them a boost of antioxidants & helps to enrich the soil. It’s also great in a compost!

5. Use the power of the sun to make tea

I’m originally from Arizona & I was astonished to find out that none of my Oregon friends seem to know what "Sun tea” is! Sun tea is great for the summer & saves electricity by not having to use a kettle (every little bit counts, this planet needs all the help it can get!)

Simply fill your container with water (I use a Mason jar with a lid on it, but I’ve seen people use a huuuuuge glass containers with spouts on them.) The size of the container depends on how much tea you want to make. It has to be glass though! That’s the one requirement. I also recommend something with a lid to keep bugs out. Then put the appropriate amount of tea bags in, close it up, & set it in direct sunlight outside for a while. This is the steeping process so the longer it sits, the stronger it’ll be. Feel closer to nature by using the gift of the sun to make your tea.

6. Grow plants as a way to worship your deities

I personally am secular, but I enjoy studying all forms of witchcraft. My non secular witch friend loved this idea & now uses it in her practice in place of statues or other physical objects for worship. Create a shrine with a houseplant. Research what plants would please your god/goddess the most & then use the potted plant in place of an alter. Water it to thank your deity, give it gifts of (water safe!) Crystals and sea shells as offerings, & speak to your deity through the plant.

7. Stop comparing yourself to other witches

I hate seeing posts that are like “me vs other witches” or “I’m not like other witches” etc. Listsn. That’s not healthy. It’s not good for you to compare yourself to others. It’s not rational to get discouraged in your practice because someone else does it “better” in your eyes. And you’re not “better” than any other witch, either. We need to just love & support each other & try our best without hating ourselves for failing. I believe in you & you should to!

8. Research an author a little bit before buying their book.

I know I can get so overwhelmed & excited when I’m looking through new books to buy. Too many times, I’ve seen witches buy books & then later find out that the authors way of doing witchcraft is totally different from their own. Or they find the authors writing to be too old fashioned or exclusive to certain groups (i.e. the writer may speak about witchcraft as if it’s only for women, when we all know that anyone can be a witch) it just helps to get you what you need.

9. Sweep energy east to west

When energy cleaning with a besom (witch’s broom) it’s traditionally stated to brush from east to west. This is because the sun rises in the east & sets in the west (because of the way earth spins) so pushing the energy towards the west is really pushing it out of your path.

10. Don’t clear out negative energy without replacing it with positive.

I don’t see enough people talking about this. If you’re using herbs to banish negative energy, you can’t just leave it at that. You’ll want to open a window, both so that the energy has somewhere to go & so that you don’t smoke up your house, & then light some incense that corresponds with your desires & fills the space with your positive intentions.

Thanks so much for reading my latest #10tips. I hope that some of the information can be useful to you & I thank you for your patience as I haven’t written one of these in many months. As always, feel free to send an ask my way anytime, for any reason. Have a magickal day 💜

i know it’s a pretty heavy-handed way to get your point across but i’m just awestruck and enthralled every single time without fail by shots where a character is positioned so that part of their background blends with the foreground and creates the illusion of them having wings or a halo or some other symbolic detail

like, regardless of how you feel about these franchises or the characters, you have to admit this is pretty epic

also when they incorporate something about the character’s personality into their clothing or possessions. that’s some good shit right there.

like there’s something about it that really just does it for me idk man
